Get the Look: Emma Stone

via
Didn't Emma Stone look fabulous leaving the David Letterman show the other day?  She looked to classically chic.  Simple but sophisticated (something that a lot of young Hollywood is missing these days...)

And the great thing is you can totally get this look too!  And here is how:

Color Crush: Coral

One color that I have never really worn much of is coral.  I am a pink and red kind of girl, but I have never really given much thought to coral.  I like it, but it just has never entered my wardrobe.  But recently, I have been going crazy over all things coral!  And it looks great with so many different colors- of course black and white, but tan, mint, navy, brown, turquoise and gold!

Have you incorporated coral into your wardrobe?

Trina Turk for Banana Republic

Have you seen the fabulous collaboration with Trina Turk and Banana Republic?  I was so excited when I heard about it, and rushed out to the store the morning it came out so that I could experience all of its wonder.  And it was worth it.

I am totally in love with all of the ads for this line.  Adorable!  Coco Rocha looks fantastic in them.

The colors of the pieces are so bright and fun and perfect for summer!

I especially love the dresses.  I really need to add 1, 2  & 3 to my closet!  All of the pieces are really versatile and perfect for mixing and matching.  Plus, they have Banana price tags, so they are easier on the wallet.

Have you seen the full collection?  Do you love it like I do?

Last night was the CFDA fashion awards.  And of course, the stars were out in their finest!  The CFDA awards are probably one of fashion's big nights, behind the Met Costume ball.

Here are some of my favorite looks from the evening!

I'm pretty much obsessed with the Olsens... fashion geniuses!

Zoe Saldana

Julianne Hough

Tory Burch

Sophia Bush

Who was your favorite from the evening?  I don't know that I can pick a favorite!!

Now that is it June 1, it is officially the start to the summer season!  I absolutely love summer.  Children are out of school, tans are becoming evident, vacations start (and eventually end)...

Whether you are heading to the beach, or hanging by your pool, here is my list of the must have pieces for the month!

Get the Look

I don't know about you, but I am kind of addicted to Pinterest.  I use it to get ideas for fashion, for decorating ideas, for recipes, future planning, things that inspire me.  It is SO addicting!  I see so many things on there that I want to try or recreate... course I have already been planning baby rooms for children I don't have and enough DIY projects to last me a year.

I pin and re-pin a lot of fashion looks that I really like to try to pull from.  I recently found an image that I absolutely am loving!

As simple, yet classy as this look is, it could be seen as a little bit difficult to emulate...
but I think I have the perfect pieces to get you the same look with a little more color! And since it is warm, I would pair it with some platform wedges instead of the boots.

Jacket: Zara
Top: Hive and Honey- Piperlime
Leggings: Splendid- Piperlime
Bag: Madewell- Shopbop
Shoes:  Elizabeth & James- Piperlime

I would accessorize with a great looking necklace and some great bangles.

So what do you think?  Do you love this classic look with a little edge?

Welcome!

Welcome to Hemlines and Heels!  This is a blog about fashion and my personal styling.

My name is Nikki, and I have always been a lover of fashion.  I graduated college with a degree in fashion merchandising, and have worked in retail for years.   I am also a graphic designer with my own business.  Working in retail can be really grueling, with long hours on your feet, late nights and early morning.  My favorite part of retail was working with customers who really needed help with a specific outfit for an event, or helping to plan for a trip, or just needing an updated look.

I love fashion, and I don't believe that just because you want to look great means you have to spend a lot of money.  I don't own a lot of designer things, and I love mixing higher end and lower end to get unique looks.

I hope you will bear with me as I develop this new blog and project.  This blog is going to be devoted to fashion and personal style, along with some of my personal fashion tips, my favorite items, trends, maybe some celebrity looks, some looks for less... there is going to be a lot going on!

I am really excited to start this new venture and am hoping you will keep checking back for more updates!
